A project for the development of Sri Aurobindo Complex on exemplary lines
of Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Pondicherry was taken up by the members of Sri

forward to meet half the cost of the Project with Government Funds with
the conditions that matching public funds should be mobilised by the Trust
in advance.
SRI
AUROBINDO COMPLEX TRUST® :
Meanwhile from 1991 onwards, thrust was given by the parent body, Sri
Aurobindo Society under the leadership of Sri M.P. Pandit, Sri. Pradeep
Narang and Sri. Vijay K. Poddar for the establishment of Sri Aurobindo
Complex Trust to found a solid state Head Quarters on the lines of Sri
Aurobindo Ashram, Pondicherry and to set an example to other states keeping
in view the objectives of Sri Aurobindo Society. Sri M.P. Pandit became
the first chairman of the Trust at J.P. Nagar, Bangalore In order to house
the State Head Quarters & Trust and to carry out the mission, a suitable
project worth Rs. 260 lakhs was placed before the Government of Karnataka
by the Board of Trustees and financial help was sought for. By Mother's
grace and constant efforts of a very few dedicated devotees, Government
and public funds were mobilised and most of the project is complete as
on November 2003.
SRI
AUROBINDO SOCIETY STATE COMMITTEE KARNATAKA:
Shree(alias S.V. Sabnis) who had the fortune of first balcony darshan
of the Divine Mother on 24th November, 1968 had later got the permission
through late Sri. M.P. Pandit, a highly evolved soul from Karnataka for
an individual darshan of the Divine Mother with his entire family on 14th
May, 1969. This day was the complete turning point in Shree's life and
he was completely taken over by the unique teachings of sri Aurobindo
and the Mother aiming at divinisation of collective life on earth. Taking
up this thread, Shree started a new organisation in India called as "Friends
of Auroville Group, Karnataka" with the support of a few noble and
dedicated engineers given to sincerity and honesty. This organisation
was approved in writing by the Divine Mother as a wing of Sri Aurobindo
Society, and was ushered into existence on 4th April, 1973. Late Sri K.G.
Katwey a senior Chief Engineer was the guide and a group of other devoted
engineers supported this organisation. With this strong support, Shree
visited a number of local study centres of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother
along with Sri K.S. Anantharamaiah, the then Chief Engineer and others
situated in different districts of the state and pleaded for their individual
registration as members of Sri Aurobindo Society. Fortunately, the devotees
accepted this suggestion of 'Shree' for the progressive development of
collective consciousness in the path of 'collective yoga' of Sri Aurobindo.
This impetus given by Shree assumed a considerable movement in Sri Aurobindonean
cause in Karnataka between 1973 and 1980, during which period 55 local
centres of "Friends Auroville Group" sprouted and about 18-20
local centres of Sri Aurobindo Society were constituted by conversion
of the above said local study centres. A State Committee - called as "Sri
Aurobindo Society, Karnataka" was ushered into existence in 1980
with Dr. B.D. Jatti as the chairman, Sri K.G. Katwey as the Vice-Chariman
and Shree(alias S.V. Sabnis) as the State secretary of Sri Aurobindo Society.
This State organisation was subsequently registered under societies Act
at Karnataka level as per the specific instructions of Dr. B.D. Jatti.
Further decade upto 1991 saw the steady growth in the local centres and
membership of Sri Aurobindo Society. 55 centres of "Friends of Auroville
Group" were wound up and membership merged into Sri Aurobindo Society
in 1984 as per the directions of our parent body, head quartered at Pondicherry
due to separation of Auroville from the Society.
Then by 1992 - 93, the II stage of revamping the state unit of Sri Aurobindo
Society started by the merger of Sri Aurobindo Society, Karnataka into
the Sri Aurobindo Society State Committee with Late Justice E.S. Venkataramaiah,
former Chief Justice of India as the chairman in place of Sri B.D. Jatti
who relinquished the post himself on helath grounds. The revamping and
rejuvenation of the local centres, zonal centres and the State Committee
went on vigorously upto 1996 with strong support from Sri Vijay K.Poddar
and Sri Pradeep Narang. Present
local centres and zonal centres by the state commitee of S.A.S in Karnataka

on date Nov. 2003 there are 36 centres including 5 zonal centres of Sri Aurobindo
Society, Karnataka unit comming under the jurisdiction of the state committee
